Intermediate Integrated Resource Unit on Mining@VMS (9:30-12:00) (SD33 Teachers/TTOCs/Admin ONLY)

Enjoy the opportunity to learn about mineral resources and mining with a fabulous resource kit! This resource will be all new to students as it is written with a thematic approach to mining, integrating learning across the curriculum. You will examine mining in the past, present and future. Be introduced to rocks, and minerals and the rock cycle, as well as BC’s mining communities, how ore deposits are discovered and mined, how we use minerals and metals, mining careers, and mining and the environment. (Note that the keynote will be shown in the space prior to this workshop, to allow a start time of 9:30 am.  We may go until noon.)

    Jason Courneyea

    Jason joined MineralsEd in August of 2019, and in January of 2020 he became Director. Raised in Peterborough, Ontario, Jason brings fourteen years of experience in mineral exploration, working on projects ranging from grassroots exploration to active mine sites in many parts of Canada. He provides geology instruction at MineralsEd's teacher workshops and is involved in all other aspects of MineralsEd program development and delivery. His long-time affiliation with industry and passion for education provides a strong background for understanding both the world of education and the BC broad-based mining community.
